Dalit Lives Matter Global Alliance (DLMGA) has been empowering young changemakers across Nepal to become Dignity Defenders, youth leaders who challenge caste-based inequality, injustice, and indignities through grassroots action.
In partnership with the British Council, DLMGA recently conducted a Youth Leadership and Advocacy Training that brought together 20 dynamic young leaders from each district of Madhesh and Lumbini provinces. These participants represented Dalit-led civil society organizations working at the intersection of climate justice, social accountability, and Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI).
Through powerful sessions, the Dignity Defenders gained crucial advocacy tools, strengthened their leadership abilities, and fostered meaningful collaboration to address the impact of climate change on systemic inequalities. Many went on to lead small but impactful projects in their communities.
Climate change affects everyone-but not equally. In regions like Madhesh and Lumbini, caste and social hierarchies magnify the crisis for Dalit and other marginalized communities.
