Dalit Lives Matter Global Alliance (DLMGA) in collaboration with Local Level Dalit Representative Association and with support from PSP/Helvetas Nepal, successfully organized a provincial-level orientation programme in Koshi Province, bringing together more than 200 Dalit elected representatives from local governments and the Provincial Assembly.
The programme aimed to strengthen the capacity of elected representatives to promote Dalit rights through inclusive governance, policy advocacy, and rights-based leadership. Participants engaged in discussions on constitutional provisions, Dalit-responsive governance, inclusive budgeting, local policy formulation, and the proposed Provincial Dalit Rights Bill. The orientation provided a unique platform for representatives from across Koshi Province to exchange experiences, discuss common challenges, and identify collective strategies for addressing caste-based discrimination and exclusion within governance structures.
A significant outcome of the programme was the formation of the Koshi Province Dalit Representative Committee, a 21-member provincial network representing districts across the province. The committee will serve as a platform for coordination, advocacy, information sharing, and collective action to advance Dalit rights and inclusive governance.
DLMGA remains committed to supporting elected representatives and community leaders in their efforts to advance social justice, equality, and dignity for all.
