Shreekrishna BK was found dead on Baisakh 7 while in custody at the Area Police Office, Khurkot, Sindhuli. His body has been taken to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj, Kathmandu for a postmortem.
Shreekrishna was arrested on Baisakh 3 after eloping with a 17-year-old girl and was taken from Lalitpur to Sindhuli, where a rape case was filed against him. Police claim he died by suicide in custody on Baisakh 7, but his family disputes this, alleging he was tortured to force a confession and denied access to the site of his death.
The circumstances remain unclear. His family suspects he was targeted due to an inter-caste relationship. The case has raised serious concerns after CCTV footage from the custody cell was reportedly not provided to the inquiry committee. Shreekrishna’s family and Dalit rights activists are demanding an impartial investigation, public release of the CCTV footage, and accountability for those responsible. The family has also accused authorities of refusing to register their complaint related to the custodial death.
