Sixteen-year-old Inisha B.K. was found unconscious on Falgun 23, March 7 in a forested area near Janajagaran Community Forest, close to Shahid Park in Surkhet, Karnali Provincec. She was taken to Province Hospital, Kalagaun, where doctors declared her dead.
A postmortem report later confirmed that the cause of death was excessive bleeding following injuries during assault.
Following the incident, police arrested a minor from the scene and later detained three additional minors. All four are under 18.
The District Police Office, Surkhet completed its investigation and submitted a report to the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Police concluded that there was no confirmed evidence of gang rape, recommending charges of forcible sexual assault and homicide against one minor, and homicide-related charges against the other three.
However, the Public Prosecutor’s Office filed an indictment at the District Court, Surkhet, charging all four minors with gang rape and murder, based on postmortem findings, CCTV footage, call detail records, digital evidence, and materials recovered from the scene.
The Surkhet District Court has ordered all four accused to be kept in a juvenile correction home. The case is currently under judicial review.
The final outcome of the case may depend on pending scientific evidence, including DNA, viscera, and bio-serological tests, which are yet to be completed.
Inisha’s family received her body 27 days after the incident, following the completion of key procedures in the investigation process.
