The tragic deaths of Rinku Kumari Sada (17) and Anandi Devi Sadaya (24) in Siraha are not isolated incidents. They reflect a deeper pattern of caste-based violence and entrenched injustice in the Madhesh region.
To draw state attention to these urgent human rights violations, DLMGA in collaboration with the Dalit Development Forum (DDF) and FCA Nepal, convened a multi-stakeholder dialogue in Lahan, Siraha. During the consultation, the families of Rinku and Anandi, Dalit women, activists, civil society organizations, and representatives from the Haruwa–Charuwa community shared first-hand experiences of discrimination, exclusion, and lack of justice. The dialogue was a concerted effort to investigate the difficulties and issues Dalits faced due to caste-based discrimination and untouchability in Siraha, and to determine potential solutions and actions to address their concerns.
Local government authorities, law enforcement officials, human rights defenders, and media representatives participated in the second session to share their insights on the challenges faced by Dalit communities and their roles in addressing them. Key participants included former parliamentarians, district officials, senior journalists, legal experts, and representatives from FEDO and Haruwa–Charuwa Sangh. Based on insights gathered from the dialogue, DLMGA has ensured that these concerns are included in the upcoming 4th cycle UPR submission.
