To advance the right to safe drinking water, DLMGA implemented the community-driven initiative “Enhancing Health and Well-Being through Access to Water” targeting Dalit and marginalized households in Rautahat, Madhesh Province.
Implemented between November 2024 and November 2025, the initiative integrated rigorous site assessments and water quality testing with infrastructure installation and local capacity building. In a country where 3.8 million people – predominantly from marginalized groups – lack access to water, the initiative addressed the disadvantages of using shallow hand pumps and seasonal water scarcity. By installing 10 high-quality hand pumps, the initiative secured a reliable water supply for 237 households benefiting more than 1,500 individuals.
