Samjhana Kami, a 12-year-old 6th grade student at Matta Basic School, was brutally raped and murdered in Bajhang district on September 23, 2020. A formal complaint was lodged on September 25 against 18-year-old Rajendra Bahadur Bohara of Masta Rural Municipality, Bajhang, on charges of rape and murder.
The incident sparked outrage and drew attention to the vulnerability of Dalit girls to caste- and gender-based violence. Investigations are ongoing.
