On May 23, 2020, Nabaraj BK, a 21-year-old Dalit youth from Rukum West was killed along with his five friends, Sanju BK, 21, Lokendra Sunar, 18, Tikaram Sunar, 20, Govinda Shahi, 17, and Ganesh Budha. The attack took place when Nabaraj, a Dalit from Jajarkot district, visited the home of his girlfriend, Sushama Malla, 17, in Solti village, who is from a higher caste.
Nabaraj with his 18 friends went to Solti village to bring his girlfriend home as bride. Unfortunately, the girl’s family did not want a Dalit son-in-law. The girl’s family and villagers, about 50–60 people, chased BK and his friends to the Bheri River, where they were beaten to death and thrown in the river.
