On Asar 23, 2073, Ajit Mijar (Dhakal), 18, and Kalpana Parajuli, 17, of Kavrepalanchowk district got married.
On Asar 24, Kalpana’s family filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Ajit, citing that marriage under 20 without parental consent is illegal. Both families were summoned for discussion.
On Asar 25, police officials and the girl’s family forced the couple to separate. Kalpana’s family also threatened to kill Ajit at any cost.
On Asar 27, Ajit went missing after leaving home with Rs 50 to buy a recharge card.
On Asar 30, his body was found hanging in Dhading, Parewatar.
On Shrawan 1, police had already buried the body near Furke Khola, Gajuri, and denied exhumation. The body was exhumed only after intervention from the National Dalit Commission. The face was unrecognizable, suggesting possible acid burns, and despite police claims of an autopsy, no incisions were found.
FIR was eventually registered against Bhojraj Parajuli, Samjhana Parajuli, and Tekbahadur Parajuli after consistent pressure from activists and the National Dalit Commission.
On Shrawan 12, a Dalit Civil Society report concluded that it was a staged murder, noting inconsistencies like the body touching the ground, a fragile rope, and hurried burial without due process.
After two months of pressure, the FIR was registered. Later, the Social Justice and Human Rights Committee of Legislature-Parliament confirmed that the body was buried without a proper autopsy and that forensic reports were forged.
Eventually, suspects were released on bail, and in 2075, the Dhading District Court acquitted the accused due to lack of substantial evidence. An appeal is currently pending at High Court Patan.
Ajit’s body is still at TU Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj, as his family refuses cremation until justice is served.
